Are You A Man With A Purpose?
Are you a man living his purpose? Are you waking up everyday enjoying your life?
If not, don't fret, you're not the only man who is not feeling like he is living his purpose, or even close to it.
One time I had a job delivering medical equipment. I would deliver hospital beds, oxygen tanks and tubing, and other medical devices to homes and hospitals.
I enjoyed meeting new people everyday and knowing the equipment was helping them in some way. However, inside I knew this was not what I was meant to do with my life.
For one week a month, I would have to carry a pager. Yes, this was back in 2003. I could be alerted to make a delivery at any time during this week on top of my regular 40 hours.
This meant that if I ended work at 5pm, I could still be out making deliveries any time after that. This would go on for one whole week every month.
One night I received a page at 2 in the morning. I made the call to the dispatcher and found there was a delivery needed for a patient who was being discharged from the hospital.
Now, I don't know why the hospital had to discharge the patient at 2 in the morning, but I had to make the delivery.
It was winter time in Bend, Oregon and there was plenty of snow and ice around this December morning. I got dressed and headed out to make the delivery and face the cold.
I made my way through snow and ice to get to my delivery truck. It was a small delivery truck with a diesel engine. I moved the snow and ice away from the door and inserted my key to open it.
I jumped into the truck, which felt like going into an ice box. I set the key in the ignition and wait for the bulb light to go off to turn on the diesel engine. I turn the key and out goes the loud roar of the diesel engine.
After waking up half of the neighborhood, I sat there freezing my ass off waiting for the truck to warm up. Sitting there rubbing my hands together frustrated that I am up at 2:30 in the morning and thinking it will most likely be too late to get back home to sleep before having to go to work again.
As I was sitting in the truck, frustrated, tired, and hating life, I said to myself in the most disappointing tone, Anthony, this is NOT what you were meant to do with your life!
Becoming a Man with a Purpose
There I sat in my truck feeling the most disappointed I'd ever been in my life. It was one a night I will never forget. It was that night that changed the course of my life.
Now, my life did change, but it wasn't overnight. I still had to go through many ups and downs, but it did change the course of my life.
Have you ever come across an article and thought, this is just what I needed to read!
This article was titled, "Homeless Man Turned Millionaire Offers The Best Advice I Ever Got".
The writer is referring to Chris Garner. I'm sure you've either seen or heard the movie, The Pursuit of Happyness. Yes, happyness is spelled incorrectly.
However, the best advice Mr. Garner gave the reporter was, "find something you love to do so much, you can’t wait for the sun to rise to do it all over again.”
This is what I get to do now. I love getting up and coaching men how to overcome life's difficulties and finding meaning and purpose in their life.
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Our chief want is someone who will inspire us to be what we know we could be.”
I hope you will find the courage to make a decision today to no longer live in fear, but to live your life to the fullest, what ever that may mean for you.
Certainly there are people who love delivering medical equipment to people who need it. That is a great service to provide. But, it wasn't for me.
Why live another day not doing something you absolutely love.
